The organizers of Sunday’s 59th annual Grammy Awards announced Wednesday that the telecast would include “two unforgettable tribute segments” to honor Prince and George Michael.
“George Michael and Prince were pop icons who showcased rare musical genius and otherworldly charisma,” said Neil Portnow, president and CEO of The Recording Academy.
“While each possessed a distinct style and sound, they were both adored by audiences worldwide. The passings of two such creative innovators were a huge loss for the creative community. The Recording Academy is humbled to pay homage to their tremendous legacies on the Grammy stage.”
Details of the tribute performances were not immediately disclosed.
Prince, a seven-time Grammy winner, died in April at the age of 57. Michael, a two-time Grammy winner, died at the age of 53 in December.
The Grammys, hosted by James Corden, will be held at Staples Center Sunday and aired on CBS at 5 p.m.
