“The Fate Of The Furious” sped to just short of the $100 million mark to open in the box office winners circle this weekend, according to updated figures released Monday.

The eighth movie in the “Fast And Furious” franchise had the third biggest domestic April opening, according to records kept by Paul Dergarabedian of industry tracker comScore. It took in $98.7 million in tickets over the three-day weekend in the United States and Canada.

“The Boss Baby” was second this weekend with $16 million in sales between Friday and the close of business Sunday. It has sold $116.7 million in tickets in the United States and Canada in 17 days of exhibition.

Disney’s “Beauty And The Beast” crossed the $1 billion mark in worldwide sales in its fifth week of domestic exhibition. It was third place domestically, with $13.7 million.

Rounding out the 10 most-popular movies this weekend, as estimated by the studios, were “Smurfs: The Lost Village” ($6.7 million), “Going In Style” ($6.2 million), “Gifted” ($3 million), “Get Out” ($3 million), “Power Rangers” ($2.8 million), “The Case For Christ” ($2.7 million) and “Kong: Skull Island” ($2.7 million).
