Suffering a “rare and potentially deadly” bacterial infection, Elton John won’t be coming to Bakersfield’s Rabobank Arena on May 6 as planned, it was announced Monday.

“His entire performance schedule for the upcoming April/May run of ‘The Million Dollar Piano’ at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace was canceled,” AOL reported.

John contracted a bacterial infection and became “violently ill” on a recent flight home from Chile, AOL said.

“He was admitted to the hospital when he returned home to the U.K., and spent two nights in intensive care.”

In a statement, the Crocodile Rock man said: “I am so fortunate to have the most incredible and loyal fans and apologize for disappointing them. I am extremely grateful to the medical team for their excellence in looking after me so well.”

Ticket-holders will have their purchase refunded at the point-of-purchase, said a press release. Credit card holders will get refunds as well.

“John was originally slated to perform in Bakersfield on March 18,” said Bakersfield.com. “That engagement was postponed to April 22 and then to May 6. He has performed in Bakersfield several times in recent years, including 1999, 2003 and 2008.”
