John Oliver wants Lord Buckethead — a real guy with a satirical political history — to help British Prime Minister Theresa May negotiate Brexit.
Lord Buckethead (via different people) actually ran for UK leader in 1987, 1992 and this year.
“When asked by CBC Radio interviewer Carol Off if he was the same individual running as Lord Buckethead in each election or ‘Are you like Doctor Who, do you regenerate for each election?’ he replied: ‘I am Buckethead. We are Buckethead. We are legion. Does that answer your question?” says Wikipedia.
On “Last Week Tonight,” Oliver explained the disastrous results of May’s early “snap election,” Rolling Stone noted.
“Despite May’s goal of consolidating power before Brexit negotiations, the move resulted in a hung Parliament. The comedian described it as a ‘crumpet-f—k of epic proportions.’”
More Wikipedia on Buckethead:
“[He] claims to be an intergalactic space lord. His name and costume are derived from the 1984 cult sci-fi comedy Hyperspace (also known as Gremloids, the name of Lord Buckethead’s party) by its writer and director Todd Durham. … Buckethead’s participation in parliamentary elections has been considered typical of a British tradition for “unorthodox candidates” in politics, having been compared to the activities of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party.”
Sunday night, the “intergalactic space ruler” tweeted: “I have not obliterated John Oliver with a laser. But I am in Earth City New York, I am on @LastWeekTonight, and I do like this glass desk…”
