Dennis Rodman, “The Worm” of NBA fame, is in North Korea — possibly as a Donald Trump back channel.
“Asked if he had spoken to President Donald Trump about the visit, Rodman said: ‘Well, I’m pretty sure he’s pretty much happy with the fact that I’m over here trying to accomplish something that we both need,’” said The Week.
Rodman, 56, appeared on “Celebrity Apprentice” for two seasons, has called North Korean leader Kim Jong Un a “smart cookie” and “friend for life” in the wake of previous trips.
“Multiple people involved in unofficial talks with North Korea say the Trump administration has been making overtures toward the Kim regime,” said The Washington Post, “including efforts to set up a secret back channel to the North Korean leader using ‘an associate of Trump’s’ rather than the usual lineup of North Korea experts and former officials who talk to Pyongyang’s representatives.”
The Post said it wasn’t clear whether Rodman is trying to help get Americans released, and he declined to answer reporters’ questions when he arrived in Pyongyang on his fifth visit to the country.
“I will discuss my mission upon my return to the U.S.A,” he told reporters earlier at Beijing airport. He said he hoped to do something “pretty positive” in North Korea.
Part of his trip appears to be devoted to promoting PotCoin, which calls itself “banking for the marijuana industry.”
