Email notice to White House press pool says the notice itself is “not reportable.”

Don’t read this story. According to a White House statement Wednesday, it contains information that is “not reportable.”

A story on a Slate blog had a field day Wednesday in noting that a publicly accessible email announcement about a press briefing was supposed to be secret — known only to White House correspondents who got the email.

“The Trump administration, acting on the fairly sound logic that its supporters don’t care in any way whatsoever about the civic principle that the government should be scrutinized by a free press, has started to cut down on the number of press conferences it gives that occur on camera,” said Ben Mathis-Lilley on Slate.

“Wednesday, the administration announced that Thursday’s press briefing by Sarah Huckabee Sanders would be one such no-video affair, then introduced a Kafka-esque twist by declaring that the announcement itself was ‘NOT REPORTABLE.’”

Reporters and media-watchers suffered stomachaches from laughter.
