Hugh Jackman as P.T. Barnum is no stretch, since the Wolverine is used to playing over-the-top characters. Now the Big Top is the setting for his next project — “The Greatest Showman.”
“After a long wait, the first trailer … has dropped, and it proves why Hugh was meant for musicals,” said British-based Metro. “The trailer shows Hugh’s character losing his job after his company is left bankrupt, so he instead falls into a life in showbiz.”
Jackman as Barnum is on a quest to put on the greatest show ever, “starring talent where no one person is like anyone else,” the site said.
He is widely credited with the line sayin there’s a “sucker born every minutes,” but authorities say there’s no evidence he ever said it.
The film, expected for 2018, will focus on Barnum’s obsession with Jenny Lind, an opera singer who was known as the ‘Swedish Nightingale’ and “whom he brought to America; his promotion of her led demand for tickets for her 93 tour dates, some of which Barnum ended up auctioning off,” Metro said.
Also starring are Michelle Williams and Zac Efron. The film is based on the life of P.T Barnum, who created the three-ring circus, Barnum & Bailey Circus, and was famous for his hoaxes.
Hoaxes? Sounds like a relevant topic.
