CNN’s Jake Tapper tapped a rich vein of anger when he reported how Fox’s Sean Hannity wasn’t going to get the William F. Buckley Award for Media Excellence.

Tapper reported that the right-wing Media Research Center pulled the award after Buckley’s son, Christopher intervened to stop it.

“Even more embarrassing for Hannity is the revelation in Tapper’s report that the MRC tried to work out a way for Hannity to save face by claiming that a scheduling conflict prevented him from attending this year’s awards ceremony,” alternet.org said.

“Upon seeing the story pop up on CNN, Hannity took to Twitter to unleash an angry tirade against Tapper for reporting this humiliating turn of events.”

Then CNN reported: “A source familiar with the situation tells CNN that Christopher Buckley said of the concocted scheduling excuse: ‘Perhaps Mr. Hannity has been offered the Ronald Reagan Great Communicator Award on the same evening and had decided to leverage upwards.’”

The exchange of tweets between “Fake News Jake” — who a month ago accepted an award from the Los Angeles Press Club — and the Fox pundit was entertaining to some.
