Lionel Richie, who famously performed at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics closing ceremony, may not stay “All Night Long” for his White House reception in December.
“I must tell you — I’m not really happy with what’s going on right now with the controversies,” Richie said on the “Today” show. “They’re weekly, daily, hourly.”
He was asked about whether he might join sitcom creator Norman Lear in skipping a Dec. 3 visit with President Trump before becoming a Kennedy Center honoree.
“You know, I’m gonna just play it by ear,” he told hosts Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie.
The Washington Post reported a different tack by another legend.
“Cuban American singer Gloria Estefan said she would attend the event — because she hoped to have a chat with Trump about the value of immigrants in American culture,” the Post said.
Richie is getting encouragement.
