Students at Keele University in Staffordshire, England, have a beef with singer-songwriter Jason Derulo: You owe us $26,000.
According to reports emerging nearly two years after the fact, Derulo was paid that amount to perform in January 2016 — but never did.
“We want Jason Derulo to acknowledge (what happened),” said Tom Snape, a member of Keele’s student union, speaking to BuzzFeed. “In an ideal world, we would get that money back.”
“The student union’s contract was not specifically with the ‘Whatcha Say’ singer, it was through a series of agents,” BuzzFeed said. “Snape and the rest of the union were provided with legal advice stating it would be difficult to get the money back.”
On Twitter, one student wrote: “So glad I didn’t get a ticket.”
BuzzFeed said a poster was shared from the school’s campus that showed Derulo with a giant international no symbol over the singer’s face and the line: “Unlike some people I wouldn’t let our union down.”
Derulo hasn’t publicly commented on the row.
