Just don’t call him late for dinner.
Days after announcing his name change to “Brother Love,” rapper/producer Sean Combs now says you can call him Diddy, Puffy, Puff Daddy, Puff — anything associated with his brand.
“Due to the overwhelming response from the media out there, and just due to there not wanting to be any confusion…. I was only joking, OK,” Combs, 48, said in a new Instagram video. “I didn’t change my name. It was just part of one of my alter egos. One of my alter egos is ‘Love.’”
He confessed that “today I’ve come to the conclusion that you cannot play around with the internet.”
Back in 2005, he also admitted confusion over his name choice.
“Combs said he now wanted to be known just as ‘Diddy as his old name was causing confusion and he wanted to ‘simplify things.’ The 35-year-old singer, producer and … mogul has already changed his moniker once – from Puff Daddy to P Diddy in 2001. Combs, made the announcement less then two weeks away from the MTV VMA’s (Video Music Awards) hosted by the Diddy,” said the report.
He said his name was even starting to confuse himself.
“Nobody knew what to call me,” he said. “I’d notice that people were uncomfortable when I’d meet them for the first time, and then they’d ask me what they should call me,” he said. “I even started to get confused myself — and when I’d called someone on the telephone it took me a long time to explain who I was. Too long.”
