Fire Sunday raced through one unit on the top floor of a three-story hotel in downtown Los Angeles that gained fame as a “seedy” location in Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky III.
Firefighters dispatched at 2:34 a.m. to 241 E. 5th St. had the fire out within 25 minutes of their arrival, said Amy Bastman of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
There were no injuries reported and a cause of the fire was under investigation.
TotalRocky.com identified the location as the hotel in 1982’s Rocky III in which “Rocky, Adrian and Paulie are driven to seedy downtown Los Angeles to set up digs at the horrendous Hotel Lorane, which is conveniently located near Apollo’s old gym.”
The website said that while the area has undergone rehabilitation since the film 35 years ago, it “still isn’t a great neighborhood.”
The website, and a number of others, say the hotel was also used for other location shoots.
TotalRocky.com recalled the hotel being used for an episode of TV’s “Scarecrow and Mrs. King” starring Kate Jackson. It was also used for the hit “Miami Vice” with Don Johnson.
It wasn’t clear if the site is still being used as a hotel.
