What did the original Hollywood sign say? What is the “PCH”? Who is “the voice of the Dodgers”?
Easy questions make up the bulk of a quiz — “35 Things Only True Angelenos Know About L.A.” — on Atlanta-based howstuffworks.com.
Edgier ones are seen, too:
- Unless you live in the Valley, what’s one good reason to go to the Valley? (Four airports are listed.)
- Who is L.A.’s unofficial billboard queen? (Options are Angelyne, Black Dahlia, the Clemmons twins and Paris Hilton.)
Food is a focus as well: What kind of bun is a Dodger Dog on? Which food was invented in Los Angeles? (Cobb salad, French dip, sriracha or “all of these were made in L.A.”) And, of course, “animal style” at In-N-Out.
Who made up the quiz, being circulated on social media?
Author is Maria Trimarchi, whose LinkedIn profile says she lives in the Eugene, Oregon, area and graduated with a bachelor’s in literature from Skidmore College. (That’s in Saratoga Springs, New York.)
Trimarchi’s earlier work for howstuffworks.com includes “How Leprosy Works” and “10 Cool Ideas for Halloween Parties.”
In any case, the title appears derivative.
In May 2014, Zaron Burnett III of Los Angeles wrote “35 Things Only Real Angelenos Know About L.A.” for houghtcatalog.com.
