“Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek is taking a break from taping new episodes of the long-running quiz show while he recovers from brain surgery.

In a message posted on the show’s Facebook page Thursday, the 77-year-old Trebek tells viewers that he underwent surgery to address blood clots on the brain from a subdural hematoma caused by a fall a couple months ago.

Trebek says he spent two days in the hospital for surgery and is now recovering at home.

“The prognosis is excellent and I expect to be back in the studio taping more Jeopardy programs very, very soon,” Trebek said.

Viewers might not notice a difference, however, since “Jeopardy!” regularly tapes shows months in advance.

Trebek has hosted “Jeopardy!” since 1984. The show tapes at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City.
