Harvey Weinstein turns 66 on March 19, but not if you believe a website called abcnewgo.com.
The faux-ABC site carried a story designed to appeal to the wish-it-were-true folks.
“Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein shot and killed himself, officials said — just months after spending time in Arizona for addiction treatment,” said the story.
“The film mogul shot himself at a Scottsdale hotel in Arizona and the weapon reportedly was found at the scene. He was 65. His body was discovered inside the hotel room and officials in Arizona are now waiting for toxicology test results to determine the exact cause of death.”
The exact cause of the story isn’t known, but Weinstein isn’t dead.
David Emery, fact-checking for Snopes.com, wrote:
“It wasn’t the first time that a fabricated report of a celebrity death appeared on ABCNewGo.com. The site reported that ailing British comedian Ken Dodd had died in January 2018, prompting an angry denial from his publicist.”
Inquisitr.com said the viral death hoax spread across social media this week.
“The story managed to fool a number of people, who shared the fabricated story online — some of them with glee at news of his death,” Inquisitr.com said.
