“Avengers: Infinity War” continued to muscle its way to the top of the box office list Sunday, as a strong opening in China sent its worldwide sales total above $1.6 billion.
The Disney/Marvel movie was number one in the United States and Canada, with an “incredible” $61.8 million in sales in this, its third weekend of sales, said Paul Dergarabedian, an industry analyst at comScore.
“Avengers: Infinity War” was projected to sell $547.8 million in the United States and Canada by the close of business Sunday evening, according to projections from Disney.
A Melissa McCarthy comedy, “Life of The Party,” opened with an $18.5 million estimated haul this weekend, good for second place. And a drama starring Gabrielle Union, “Breaking In,” premiered in third place with a projected $16.5 million debut.
Rounding out the 10 most-popular movies in the U.S. and Canada this weekend, as estimated by the studios and gathered by comScore, were “Overboard” ($10.1 million), “A Quiet Place” ($6.4 million), “I Feel Pretty” ($3.7 million), “Rampage” ($3.4 million), “Tully” ($2.2 million), “Black Panther” ($1.9 million) and “Blockers” ($1.1 million).
