“Mission: Impossible – Fallout” opened with an estimated $61.5 million in weekend sales, the best debut ever for the six Paramount films in that venerable franchise.
Movie analyst Paul Dergarabedian said the “Mission franchise has been thrilling audiences for over two decades and this film, with some of the best reviews of the series, does not disappoint.”
“Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” was in second place, with an estimated $15 million in weekend sales, good for $70.4 million in sales over 10 days. The film now has $167.3 million in the bank, factoring in worldwide sales.
“The Equalizer 2” was on track to deal $14 million in its second weekend, good for third place. It has $64.2 million in estimated domestic sales through Sunday evening.
“Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” was fourth at $12.3 million, and “Teen Titans Go! To The Movies” opened with $10.5 million in estimated weekend sales.
Rounding out the 10 most popular movies in the United States and Canada, as estimated by the studios and gathered by comScore analysts, were “Ant-Man And The Wasp” ($8.4 million), “Incredibles 2” ($7.2 million), “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” ($6.8 million) “Skyscraper” ($5.4 million) and “The First Purge” ($2.2 million).
