“The Titan Games,” a large-scale athletic competition series hosted by Dwayne Johnson, will premiere at 8 p.m Thursday evening on NBC with a two-hour episode.
The series was inspired by the desire by the football player-turned-professional wrestler-turned movie star “to motivate global audiences to reach their potential for greatness,” according to NBC.
“We wanted to create a new kind of athletic competition unlike anything ever attempted before,” Johnson said. “`The Titan Games’ will challenge competitors to succeed in ways no one thought possible while entertaining the whole world at the same time.”
Contestants will battle one of the six reigning Titans “in remarkable feats that will require both mental stamina and physical strength,” according to NBC.
If a contender defeats an existing Titan, he or she will assume the loser’s place in the elite Titan group. However, a loss in a future episode will knock him or her out of the competition. The season will conclude with the Titans competing against one another in hopes of becoming the last man and woman standing.
The male and female winners will each receive $100,000.
Johnson will also serve as one of the producers of the series, which has received a 10-episode order from NBC.
“The Titan Games” is produced by Johnson’s production company, Seven Bucks Productions, A. Smith & Co. Productions, which produces the hit NBC alternative series “American Ninja Warrior,” and Universal Television Alternative Studio, which produces the competition series “World of Dance,” and the game show, “The Wall,” which both air on NBC.
“`The Titan Games’ will not only be an athletic spectacle, but will intertwine compelling storylines with new heroes that viewers will fall in love with,” said Arthur Smith, CEO of A. Smith & Co. Productions.
