The daughter of “Boyz N the Hood” director John Singleton Friday took to task his mother’s claim that the filmmaker is in a coma in the wake of suffering a stroke on April 17 after checking himself into a Los Angeles hospital.

Cleopatra Singleton, 19, says in a sworn statement filed in Los Angeles Superior Court that her father’s physicians are continuing to examine him to determine his condition.

She alleges Shelia Ward is abusing her position as her son’s personal and business manager. The college sophomore further claims that Ward has stated her intention to liquidate her son’s assets and leave his children with nothing.

Cleopatra Singleton calls Ward’s behavior toward Singleton and his children “disturbing” and says that in a family meeting with doctors two days ago, she was told her father’s condition is improving and that he could be out of intensive care in five days.

She believes her grandmother would have a conflict of interest if she was put in charge of both his medical and business affairs, according to her sworn statement.

“My father’s allowed his mother to stay in that position out of fear and obligation to her as she’s bullied and abandoned my father since he was a small child, leaving him emotionally defenseless,” she says.

She says her older brother, Maasai, or her grandfather, Danny, are better suited as conservators than Ward.

In her conservatorship petition, Ward says her 51-year-old son is unable to properly provide for his personal needs, including feeding and clothing himself.

A hearing on Ward’s petition is scheduled for July 9.
