Ryan Phillippe and his ex-girlfriend have settled the woman’s lawsuit, in which she alleged he assaulted her in 2017, court papers obtained Friday show.
Lawyers for Phillippe filed a notice of settlement Thursday with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Laura Seigle, ahead of a trial that was scheduled to start next week. No terms were divulged.
Plaintiff Elsie Hewitt, 23, filed her suit in September 2017, alleging Phillippe assaulted her on July 4 of that year. She accused the “Shooter” star of assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Hewitt alleged that the 45-year-old actor kicked and punched her at his home. She claimed in her court papers that during the fight, she gathered her things to leave and Phillippe reacted by grabbing her upper arm so tightly that his grip left heavy bruises. He then allegedly threw her down his staircase.
Hewitt’s lawyers had listed Phillippe’s former wife, actress Reese Witherspoon, as one of their scheduled witnesses.
In a countersuit against Hewitt filed in November 2017, Phillippe denied her claims and alleged that she broke into his home in the middle of the night without permission and “fabricated a story in an unjustified attempt to extort money.”
