“Birds of Prey” — a spinoff of the DC comics’ budding “Suicide Squad” franchise about a group of super-villians — opened in the top spot at the North American box office this weekend, taking in $33.2 million, according to industry estimates out Sunday.

“Bad Boys for Life,” which had held the top spot for three straight weeks, was No. 2 this weekend with $12 million Friday through Sunday at theaters in the United States and Canada, according to Comscore.

Oscars favorite “1917” was third with $9 million in its seventh week in theaters.

“Dolittle” was fourth, taking in $6.6 million, followed by “Jumanji: The Next Level” with $5.5 million.

Rounding out the 10 top-grossing films of the weekend were “The Gentlemen” ($4.1 million), “Gretel And Hansel” ($3.5 million), “Knives Out” ($2.3 million), “Little Women” ($2.3 million) and “Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker” ($2.2 million).
