Backstreet Boys singer AJ McLean, Grammy-winning rapper Nelly and three women who found fame from Netflix docu-series are among the 15-member cast announced Wednesday for ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.”
The cast includes Monica Aldama, the coach of the Navarro College cheer squad which was the subject of “Cheer”; Carole Baskin, the founder of Big Cat Rescue whose feud with zoo owner Joe Exotic was detailed on “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness”; and Chrishell Stause, an actress whose work as a real estate agent for The Oppenheim Group is chronicled on “Selling Sunset.”
There are three retired athletes in the cast — two-time Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir; Charles Oakley, who played 19 seasons in the NBA; and Vernon Davis, a tight end with the San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins who played 15 years in the NFL.
The remainder of the cast for the series’ 29th season introduced Wednesday on “Good Morning America” consists of:
— actresses Anne Heche, Skai Jackson and Justina Machado;
— actor Jesse Metcalfe;
— Kaitlyn Bristowe, who starred in the 2015 season of “The Bachelorette”; and
— television personalities Jeannie Mai (“The Real” and “Holey Moley”) and Nev Schulman (“Catfish”).
The new season of “Dancing with the Stars”’ will begin Sept. 14 with Tyra Banks replacing Tom Bergeron as host.
