Disney’s “Jungle Cruise” opened with $34.1 million this weekend to lead all films at the North American box office, according to industry estimates released Sunday.
The film stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt and is based on a venerable ride at the Anaheim theme park. It is also available for an added fee on the Disney+ streaming service.
“The Green Knight,” a dramatic fantasy about King Arthur’s nephew starring Dev Patel, opened in second place with $6.78 million Friday through Sunday at theaters in the United States and Canada, Comscore reported.
That barely beat out M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller “Old,” which grossed $6.76 million in its second weekend of release.
Marvel’s “Black Widow” was fourth with $6.4 million in its fourth week, followed by “Stillwater” starring Matt Damon, which opened with $5.1 million.
Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were “Space Jam: A New Legacy” ($4.2 million), “Snake Eyes” ($4 million), “F9” ($2.6 million), “Escape Room: Tournament of Champions” ($2.2 million) and “The Boss Baby 2: Family Business” ($1.3 million).
