“The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” kept its box office crown in its second weekend at North American theaters, taking in $42 million to lead all films, according to industry estimates released Sunday.
The prequel to the blockbuster film series that began in 2012 beat out director Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon,” which opened with $32.5 million over the long Thanksgiving weekend, Comscore reported.
In third place was Disney’s newest animated adventure “Wish,” which opened with $31.7 million Wednesday through Sunday.
Fourth place went to “Trolls Band Together,” which made $25.3 million in its second week in theaters, followed by “Thanksgiving,” also in its second week, which made $11.1 million for the five-day weekend.
Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore (Friday through Sunday only), were “The Marvels” ($6.4 million), “The Holdovers” ($2.7 million), “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” ($2.3 million), “Five Nights at Freddy’s” ($1.75 million) and “Saltburn” ($1.73 million).
