“Barbie” was among the winners at Wednesday evening’s 26th Costume Designers Guild Awards which honor excellence in film, television, short-form costume design and costume illustration.
“Barbie’s” Jacqueline Durran won for excellence in a sci-fi/fantasy film over the costume designers for “Haunted Mansion,” “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” “The Little Mermaid” and “Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire.”
Holly Waddington won for excellence in period film for her costumes for “Poor Things.” The other nominees were Jacqueline West (“Killers of the Flower Moon”), Mark Bridges (“Maestro”), Janty Yates & Dave Crossman (“Napoleon”) and Ellen Mirojnick (“Oppenheimer”),
During the ceremony at NeueHouse Hollywood hosted by actress Wendi McLendon-Covey actress Annette Bening received the guild’s Spotlight Award, honoring a performer’s “enduring commitment to excellence, including a special awareness of the role and importance of costume design.”
Bening joined such past recipients as Charlize Theron, Glenn Close, Kerry Washington and Halle Berry.
Singer Billie Eilish received the inaugural Vanguard Spotlight Award, honoring a performer “who sets new standards in their sphere, not only for their outstanding achievements but also for their courage as a visionary that serves as an inspiration to us all.”
Francine Jamison-Tanchuck received a career achievement award. Her credits include “One Night in Miami,” “White Men Can’t Jump,” “Glory,” “Just Mercy,” “Birth of a Nation” and “Corrina, Corrina.”
