Coachella Valley Repertory announced its 2024-25 schedule Wednesday, including five productions to be performed by the repertory for the first time.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning musical “Next to Normal” will mark the seasonal debut Nov. 6-24, depicting “a family’s struggle with depression and mental health through powerful songs, comedic and chaotic settings.”
After that, CVRep will perform the Alfred Hitchcock-inspired drama “The 39 Steps” from Dec. 11-22, featuring romance, an on-stage plane crash and over 150 characters played by only four actors.
That play will be followed by the six-time Tony Award-winning musical “The Light in the Piazza” from Jan. 22-Feb. 9, a love story set in the Tuscan countryside.
Next, the repertory will present “Jesus Christ Superstar” from March 3-25, with repertory players promising a “semi-immersive version” of the Andrew Lloyd Webber rock classic detailing the life of Christianity’s central figure.
Fittingly, the 2024-25 slate will end in the Coachella Valley from April 16-27 with “Other Desert Cities,” a Palm Springs-set family drama about a tell-all memoir and a devastating secret.
An additional sixth production, a world premiere to be selected from over 300 Origins New Works Program submissions, will be announced in the future.
“These plays and musicals are brilliant achievements,” executive artistic director Alex Karsten said in a statement. “In some, we’re drawn into situations that are personal, private, and even intimate, and, at others, hysterically funny and unapologetically romantic. If there is a season that has something for everyone, this is it.”
Subscription prices begin at $305, while single tickets are between $55 and $125. Both can be purchased at cvrep.org.
