Citing a family illness, musician Dave Matthews announced Wednesday he will not be performing as scheduled at Thursday’s FireAid concert in Inglewood or at Friday’s MusiCares pre-Grammy benefit concert honoring the Grateful Dead.

“Due to a critical illness in the family, Dave Matthew is unfortunately unable to perform at the FireAid and MusiCares benefits this week,” a message posted on his Instagram page announced. No further details were provided.

The FireAid concert benefiting Los Angeles wildfire recovery efforts will be held Thursday night, with a series of acts first performing at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, and a second group of musicians then taking the stage at the nearby Intuit Dome.

Among the artists set to take part are Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Jelly Roll, Alanis Morissette, Jelly Roll, Katy Perry, Olivia Rodrigo, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rod Stewart.

The MusiCares gala event honoring the Grateful Dead will be held Friday at the Los Angeles Convention Center, featuring performances by Zac Brown, Stewart Copeland, Mick Fleetwood, Sammy Hagar, Maren Morris, Vampire Weekend, Wynonna Judd, Norah Jones, Dwight Yoakam and My Morning Jacket.

The event will benefit music professionals in need, including those impacted by the wildfires.
