“Dog Man” held onto the top spot at the box office in a slow Super Bowl weekend at the movies, taking in $13.7 million to lead all films in North America, according to industry estimates released Sunday.
DreamWorks’ animated comedy about a police officer who becomes fused with his service dog, which opened in first place one week ago, beat out Sony’s slasher film “Heart Eyes,” which opened with $8.5 million, Comscore reported.
The action comedy “Love Hurts,” starring Ke Huy Quan and Ariana DeBose, opened with $5.8 million for third place.
Fourth place went to “Mufasa: The Lion King,” which made another $3.9 million Friday through Sunday in its eighth weekend in theaters. It was followed by “Companion,” which made $3.02 million in its second week.
Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases were “One of Them Days” ($3 million), “Becoming Led Zeppelin” ($2.62 million), “Flight Risk” ($2.6 million), “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” ($1.7 million) and “Moana 2” ($1.5 million).
