Actor Timothée Chalamet will receive the Spotlight Actor of the Year Award for his performance in “Marty Supreme” next month at the Palm Springs Film Awards, it was announced Thursday.
“In `Marty Supreme,’ Timothée Chalamet delivers a performance which marks a true milestone in his career,” said Festival Nachhattar Singh Chandi. “Within a dynamic struggle for glory, Chalamet’s portrayal of Marty Mauser transforms this narrative into a deeply human story of ambition and longing. This is one of his finest roles to date — and of the best standout performances of the year, sure to be celebrated throughout the awards season.”
Directed by Josh Safdie and produced by A24, the film follows the story of Marty Supreme’s (Chalamet) pursuit to become a table tennis champion. The ensemble case includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler Okonma, Kevin O’Leary, Abel Ferrara, Fran Drescher, Emory Cohen and Odessa A’zion.
Chalamet has received a olden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy and a Critics Choice award nomination for Best Actor for his performance in the film.
The two-time Academy-Award nominee and five-time Golden Globe nominee has starred in “Dune,” “Beautiful Boy,” “The French Dispatch,” “`A Complete Unknown” and “Interstellar.” He has worked with filmmakers, such as Christopher Nolan, Luca Guadagnino, Greta Gerwig, Denis Villeneuve, Wes Anderson and Martin Scorsese. Chalamaet was the youngest Best Actor Oscar nominee since 1939 for his breakout role in “Call Me By Your Name.”
Beyond acting, he has served as producer for a few of his films, including “Bones and All,” “A Complete Unknown” and “Marty Supreme.”
The film awards will take place on Jan. 3, 2026 at the Convention Center, 277 N. Avenida Caballeros, with the accompanying festival running from Jan. 2-12.
