Actor, playwright and filmmaker Colman Domingo will receive the President’s Award at the 57th NAACP Image Awards, organizers announced Tuesday.

The honor recognizes special achievement and distinguished public service. Domingo is also nominated for two NAACP Image Awards this year for his role in and directing Netflix’s “The Four Seasons.”

“We are honored to recognize Colman Domingo with the President’s Award for the breadth and depth of his leadership, artistry, and cultural impact,” Derrick Johnson, NAACP President and CEO, said in a statement. “Across film, television, and theater, Colman has consistently chosen work that challenges narratives, expands representation, and centers humanity with dignity and grace.”

Previous recipients of the President’s Award include Dave Chappelle, Usher, Gabrielle Union-Wade, Dwyane Wade, Rihanna, LeBron James, Kerry Washington, Spike Lee, Muhammad Ali and the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

The ceremony will air live Feb. 28 from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on BET and CBS.

The Image Awards is billed as an annual celebration of Black excellence across a wide array of categories.
