“The Odyssey” brought home an impressive $87 million in its second weekend in North American theaters to easily outpace the competition, according to industry estimates released Sunday.
Director Christopher Nolan’s epic adaptation of Homer’s classic Greek tale has already grossed $286 million at theaters in the United States and Canada, Rentrak reported.
Disney’s “Moana” made $10.5 million Friday through Sunday in its third weekend to claim a distant second place.
“Toy Story 5” was third with $10 million in its sixth weekend.
Fourth place went to “Hadestown: The Musical,” a filmed recording of the Broadway sensation by Anais Mitchell, which opened with $9.69 million.
“Minions & Monsters” was fifth with $9.6 million in its fourth week.
Rounding out the top 10 releases were “The Invite” ($2.63 million), “Evil Dead Burn” ($2.61 million), “Young Washington” ($1.9 million), “Motor City” ($1.6 million) and “Obsession” ($1.5 million).
