It was easy money for Marvel and Disney this weekend, as a re-release of 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame” hauled in $26 million to lead all movies in North America, according to industry estimates released Sunday.
The superhero film is coming back to theaters to drum up anticipation for December’s opening of “Avengers: Doomsday.”
“Resident Evil” grossed $23.3 million Friday through Sunday, one week after opening in first place, Rentrak reported.
“The Heart of the Beast,” a survival thriller starring Brad Pitt and a German Shepherd named Uber (Odin in the film), opened with $20 million for third place.
“Primetime,” A24’s drama based on NBC’s “To Catch a Predator,” opened with $19.1 million for fourth place, followed by the animated family film “Forgotten Island,” which opened with $12.8 million.
Rounding out the top 10 releases were “Practical Magic 2” ($5.6 million), “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” ($4.1 million), “The Odyssey” ($3.7 million), “Coyote vs. Acme” ($1.9 million) and “Daniel and the Fiery Furnace” ($1.5 million).
