The annual Clive Davis and Recording Academy Pre-Grammy Gala will take place Feb. 6 at the Beverly Hilton, organizers announced Thursday, marking the first edition of the event since the influential music executive’s death in June.
The gala, traditionally held on the eve of the Grammy Awards, will honor Davis’ life and career and is expected to feature performances by major recording artists, according to Recording Academy officials.
The 2027 Grammy Awards are scheduled for Feb. 7.
Davis died June 22 at age 94. The four-time Grammy winner founded the gala five decades ago and began presenting the event in partnership with the Recording Academy in 2009.
“Clive built this gala into something the entire music community looked forward to for five decades. He never did it for applause or recognition. He did it because he loved this community, believed in the power of music, and understood what it meant to bring us all together to celebrate it,” Grammys CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said.
“I was lucky to call Clive a friend and mentor, and working with him taught me so much,” Mason said. “That’s exactly the spirit he brought to the Pre-Grammy Gala and I know he’d want nothing more than for the show to go on this year. It’s our honor to celebrate the legacy he left behind.”
The annual event has traditionally drawn prominent figures from the music, film, television, sports and political worlds, along with performances and collaborations by major artists.
Davis was among the most influential executives in the recording industry, helping launch or develop the careers of artists including Whitney Houston, Janis Joplin, Bruce Springsteen, Carlos Santana, Billy Joel, Aretha Franklin, Barry Manilow and Alicia Keys.
He led Columbia Records and founded Arista Records, earning four Grammy Awards during his career. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2000, and the Grammy Museum’s Clive Davis Theater was named in his honor in 2010.
Organizers said additional details about the 2027 gala, including performers, will be announced in the coming months.
