A Sierra Madre homeowner was greeted by an unexpected visitor Sunday when a black bear decided to take a break from the Southern California heatwave by taking a dip in her pool.
Video posted to social media shows the hot bear lounging on the steps of the pool and swimming a few strokes before heading out of the woman’s back yard.
NBC4 reported that the bear spent 15 minutes in the pool Sunday afternoon.
Black bear sighting are not uncommon in the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains.
Just last week, a mother bear and her cub were spotted dining on avocados in a tree in Monrovia and attracted plenty of attention from residents.
Police in Glendale last week said the city was also experiencing an increase in wildlife sightings. Some residents reported hearing a bear above Deukmejian Park, and seeing mountain lions, one of which was struck on the Glendale (2) Freeway.
Tahnee Lightfoot of the Glendale Police Department said more wildlife is being spotted due to the scarcity of water and food in the mountains.
