Pet food maker Chicken Soup for the Soul will donate food to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles as part of an effort to get people to adopt more shelter pets.

The company is donating 6,000 pounds of pet food to support spcaLA’s program by donating a bag of the product and books when people adopt shelter pets, starting Oct. 1.

SpcaLA, which has been short on its pet food supplies, needs about 35,000 pounds of food each year to feed the pets in their care.
