Military veterans from throughout the county will now be able to search for and access needed services on their own, thanks to the recent launch of a service portal by the nonprofit 211 LA County.

The Military and Veterans Services portal makes it easy for veterans to connect to services such as VA benefits, job training and housing through an online directory powered by the nonprofit’s resource database.

The portal’s peer navigation support option — provided by the Weingart Center for the Homeless — allows veterans to connect with trained peers.

“The LA Veterans Portal is a useful tool in our work to reconnect our returning heroes to the services they so desperately need,” Mayor Eric Garcetti said.

The site was established after the Los Angeles County Veterans Study found significant barriers to care, including more than 50 percent of post-9/11 veterans reporting they didn’t know where to go to get help, according to 211 LA County officials.
