Because of runoff from recent rains, beachgoers were advised Wednesday to be careful when swimming in the ocean waters near discharging storm drains, creeks and rivers.
Bacteria, debris, trash, and other public health hazards from city streets and mountain areas are likely to enter ocean waters through these outlets, the Los Angeles County Department of Health reported.
The rain advisory will remain in effect until at least 7 a.m. Saturday, and may be extended if there is more rainfall, authorities said.
Recorded information on beach conditions is available by calling (800) 525-5662 or via the website www.publichealth.lacounty.gov/beach/ .
