Donald Trump announced Thursday that he is donating 11.5 acres of land alongside his Rancho Palos Verdes golf course to a conservation group.

“It’s important, no matter where you go, when you have the Pacific Ocean and you have a location like this — it’s very rare that somebody would (donate such a property),” Trump said. “But it was very important to the community and to the people representing the community. It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a year, maybe even a little longer than a year, and I decided to pull the trigger and do it.”

Trump added that deciding to donate the land was “not an easy thing to do, because … it’s valued at much more than $25 million.”

The land, which had been earmarked for housing, is alongside the Trump National Golf Course and will be donated to the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy to be used for recreation.
