With storm runoff carrying bacteria and debris into the ocean, people heading to Los Angeles County beaches were warned Friday that the water could be harmful until at least Monday morning.

County health officials said people should be careful when swimming, surfing or playing in the ocean, particularly near discharging storm drains, creeks and rivers, which carry bacteria, trash and other potential health hazards.

The rain advisory will remain in effect until at least 7 a.m. Monday.

Information on beach conditions is available 24 hours a day on the county’s beach closure hotline, (800) 525-5662, or online at www.publichealth.lacounty.gov/beach/.
