The county fire and health departments will join with the American Heart Association on Thursday to offer 10-minute “Sidewalk CPR” courses in 70 locations across the county.
Ninety percent of people who suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrests die, yet it takes just five minutes to learn how to keep a cardiac arrest victim alive until paramedics arrive, officials said.
Last year, 7,000 people received the CPR training. The goal this year is to train 10,000 people.
A list of locations for the training sessions is available online at www.fire.lacounty.gov/sidewalkcpr/.
