Flight 810, which landed at LAX about 1:15 p.m., reported having 12 passengers aboard who were experiencing stomach problems, said airport spokeswoman Nancy Castles.

They were first checked out by doctors from U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which is normal procedure to rule out communicable diseases, then released to the care of Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics, Castles said.

It was determined that the 12 passengers had stayed at the same hotel in Nadi and experienced diarrhea and vomiting, although they were not traveling together, she said.

Castles said that 272 people, including 11 crew members, were aboard the Airbus, which was scheduled to return to Fiji this evening.
