Get ready for more flight delays at LAX this summer – and not just because of heavy vacation travel.
One of the runways at Los Angeles International Airport will be closed all summer and parts of the fall starting Monday due to federally mandated construction, airport officials said.
The northern runway near Lincoln Boulevard is being taken out of commission for 113 days until Oct. 19 as the airport performs upgrades to create more room for safe landing and departures of airplanes.
The construction work will likely result in flight delays comparable to those occurring during bad weather, officials said.
LAX has four east-west runways, two on each side of the central terminal area.
