The rescue by firefighters in the 12000 block of Big Tujunga Canyon Road — northeast of the Foothill (210) Freeway and the Hansen Dam Park — began about 2 p.m., said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

Firefighters initially wanted to airlift the unidentified woman to a hospital, but the terrain forced firefighters to change to a ground operation.

Another person with the woman on the hike by the Condor Peak trailhead walked out with the paramedics unhurt, Stewart said.

Her current condition and the exact nature of her illness were unknown.
