The Archdiocese of Los Angeles announced Tuesday the appointment of three auxiliary bishops.
Los Angeles Archbishop Jose H. Gomez will introduce Monsignor David O’Connell, Monsignor Joseph Brennan and Father Robert Barron, who recently were appointed to the posts by Pope Francis, according to the archdiocese.
“I believe each of these new auxiliary bishops will help us in our mission here in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles — the beautiful mission we have of sharing the love of God and the message of Jesus Christ and promoting human dignity and mercy and justice in our society.”
The Vatican also announced the retirement of Bishop Gerald Wilkerson, Auxiliary Bishop for the San Fernando Pastoral Region. The 75-year-old Wilkerson had reached the mandatory retirement age for Roman Catholic bishops.
