Los Angeles County lifeguards rescued a swimmer Tuesday who got stuck in kelp near San Pedro.

Authorities were called around 4:10 p.m. about the swimmer in distress near the 4100 block of South Gaffey Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Margaret Stewart.

Fire crews responding to the scene could not reach the swimmer from the ground, Stewart said. Lifeguards in a boat were able to reach him and rescue him in about 20 minutes.

The swimmer did not appear to be injured, Stewart said.
