Hundreds of animals rights activists will gather under the Hollywood sign Sunday, many of them cradling the bodies of animals killed by human hands.
The activists will gather at Lake Hollywood Park at 3200 Canyon Lake Drive for the public requiem, which begins at noon. They will hold pigs, chickens, goats, cats, dogs and other to represent the billions of animals who die every year for human food, clothing, testing and entertainment. Some activists will hold photos of dead animals, while others will hold the bodies.
Following that ceremony, which will include speeches, the animals will be carried away in a funeral procession.
The sixth annual ceremony marks National Animal Rights Day, and is being held in conjunction with similar events in major North American cities including San Francisco, Seattle, New York, Dallas and Washington, D.C., according to organizers from the group “Our Planet. Theirs Too.”
Last year’s Los Angeles ceremony took place on Santa Monica Beach.
