Caltrans crews will conduct emergency road repair on the Long Beach (710) Freeway bridge over Olympic Boulevard for about 35 hours beginning Friday night, meaning some full-freeway closures and likely delays for motorists in the area.

According to Caltrans, the pavement on the freeway is damaged on both sides of the bridge, necessitating emergency repair work to prevent even more deterioration.

The closures will begin at 11 p.m., when the entire southbound 710 Freeway will be closed from the Pomona (60) Freeway to Olympic Boulevard until 3 a.m. Saturday. At 3 a.m., two southbound lanes will be re-opened to traffic, but the entire southbound freeway will close again at midnight Saturday night and remain closed until 10 a.m. Sunday.

The entire northbound 710 Freeway will be closed Sunday morning, from midnight to 6 a.m.

During the 35-hour construction period, the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway ramp to the northbound 710 Freeway will be closed, along with the east- and west-bound ramps from the 60 Freeway to the southbound 710 Freeway.

The same closures are expected to be repeated the weekend of Oct. 28, according to Caltrans.
