If you’re planning on spending time with that special lover cuddling in front of a romantic fireplace on a cold night, local government will put a stop to that nonsense.

Much of the Southland will be under a “no-burn” order Tuesday, meaning indoor fireplace use and outdoor wood burning will be prohibited due to pollution concerns.

With temperatures expected to dip into the 40s and 50s overnight in the Southland, the only thing to turn on for a hot time will be your furnace.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District issued the order for all residences in the South Coast Air Basin, including the greater Los Angeles area, Orange County and Inland Empire.

The order excludes the Coachella Valley, residences above 3,000 feet in elevation, and homes where there is no other source of heat.

Fine particles in wood smoke can penetrate deep into lungs, causing problems for people with asthma or other respiratory disorders, AQMD officials said.

Residents can register online at www.AirAlerts.org to receive email alerts when no-burn alerts are issued in their area.

A check of the AQMD website indicated anyone violating the no-burn order could be subject to fines up to hundreds of dollars and other actions.
