Public health officials issued an advisory for all Los Angeles County beaches, cautioning swimmers and surfers to stay away from areas near storm drains, creeks and rivers.
Rain runoff can carry debris and bacteria into the ocean, which can contaminate the water around discharge sites and potentially make people sick.
“Discharging storm drains, creeks and rivers only comprise a small portion of the beach, therefore, anybody who wants to go to the beach will still be able to enjoy their outing,” according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, which said its rain advisory will remain in place until 2 p.m. Thursday.
