A sewer pipe that burst, sending sewage onto Riverside streets and into a natural arroyo, was fixed Sunday.

The pipe ruptured at about noon on Saturday at Trautwein and Berry roads.

Sewage also reached a natural arroyo that crosses Trautwein Road and runs parallel to Alessandro Boulevard, Riverside Councilman Paul Davis said in a news release.

Public sewer spill notification signs were posted around the neighborhood, and Riverside City Environmental Compliance was collecting water quality samples along the arroyo to determine impacts, according to Davis.

Testing will continue until results indicate normal conditions.

Davis said the failure was due to a lateral crack about four feet long on the top of the pipe.

The pipe was tested and put back into normal operation Sunday morning, Davis said.

At mid-afternoon, crews were still working to cleanup the spill and resurface a portion of the street that was damaged.
